Maybe you have been to neighbourhoods where you have noticed the houses that have single or double glass panes that can slide on wooden frames. These are timber sash windows. They are able to use the grooves or rails on the wooden casings where they slide upwards and downwards, quite smoothly.

Contemporary or New Look Timber Sash Windows are Convenient
The sashes can have one or two glass panes within the same frame. The ones with two panes are the double glazed timber sash windows. Another form of sash frames can have several glass panes and are sometimes known as lights. The panes rest on or are sustained by tiny strips that are known as muntin. It is paramount for those who have these windows to know how to clean them properly, with ease. The contemporary styles and designs allow the panes to slide effortlessly on the grooves. They are unlike the ancient models that used to apply weights together with pulleys that were needed for opening and shutting the panes.

The panes that stand double in the sashes are double glazed which make them suitable for maximizing heat and saving sound.  Another unique feature is that they are draught resistant.  This quality results in easy maintenance of windows, clean drapes and a reduction in heating bills.   When draught cannot enter the home through the windows, it means the available heat is shut in, and cannot escape.  The same reasoning can apply to sound, which will not escape from the room easily when the panes can shut tightly.  These are some of the advantages that accrue to those who use these windows in their homes.timber sash windows

Maintenance and Cleaning of Timber Sash Windows
Modern sash windows are easy to handle, as they can tilt forward easily to enable a person wipe them from inside the room. The muntins are detachable, meaning that they can disengage to allow the necessary minor repairs to continue. It is a similar case when it comes to the issues of painting, polishing, and cleaning. In this way, the windows will always look clean and without rot.

Timber is usually primed, which means it can be treated or cured so that the wood would not require another round of treating for ages to come. It is common knowledge that when the wood used for production is properly treated by experts, it lasts longer. It is the same for the manufacture of timber sash windows which may not need further treatment for close to a century. The timber can be painted by micro-porous or special paint that will be extremely convenient when cleaning.

There are different types of glasses that can be used in the manufacture of the panes, some being those that can self-clean. These are different from the ordinary glass in that they are specially made for self cleaning purposes. They are available on the customer’s request, so make sure you ask your building constructor for them.
